ORIENTATION TRAINING TO THE NEWLY RECRUITED AGRICULTURAL OFFICERS, GOVERNMENT OF TAMIL NADU AT KRISHI VIGYAN KENDRA, TINDIVANAM, VILLUPURAM DISTRICT

          The Government of Tamil Nadu recently recruited Agricultural Officers to various operational areas in the State. These Officers were given orientation training in three academic campuses of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. In addition, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tindivanam of the University was identified for offering the programme during 20-24th August 2013. A total of 102 participants drawn from the North Eastern Zone of Tamil Nadu (Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Vellore and Thiruvallur Districts) attended the five day training programme.


          The inaugural session was held on 20.8.2013 forenoon. Shri.R. Chakravarthy, Joint Director of Agriculture, Dr. R. Vaidhyanathan, Professor and Head, Oilseeds Research Statiion, Dr. N. Sathiah, Professor and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Villupuram District, Mr. A. Rethinasabapathy, Deputy Director of Agriculture (GOI), Shri. H. Rajendran, Deputy Director of Agriculture (SS), Shri. Kennedy Jebakumar, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Marakkanam Block, Mr. Dhamodharan, Deputy Project Director I, ATMA, Villupuram District, Mr. Raveendran, Deputy Project Director II, ATMA, Villupuram District and Shri. Rajasekar, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Olakkur participated in the inaugural session.

          The Scientists of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Oilseeds Research Station participated in the deliberations on Agricultural Technologies. The Scientists acted as facilitators and discussed in depth on wide ranging subjects with the participants of the programme. This included technical sessions on agroclimatic zones, rainfall, weather forecast, focus crops and technologies, information and communication, technology application system, ATMA etc besides, interactive sessions. Field studies on natural resource management, in situ moisture conservation, Automatic Weather Station, mechanized sowing synchronizing with available moisture etc. were conducted in the Instructional Farm. Besides, a set of participant trainees were exposed to redgram transplanting in Endiyur village in the Marakkanam Block of the District. This group of participants was involved in the experience sharing with the trainees.

          The Interdepartmental and interdistrict Officers conducted various sessions on administration, governance, policies, schemes, guidelines etc. The young officers were given exposure on the Right to Information Act, Citizens Charter, Insecticides Act, 1968, audit procedures besides others. Ex-officials of the Department and serving officers provided the needed inputs and shared the rich experience in the technology transfer and extension system.
          Shri. Hanish Chhabhra, I.A.S., Additional Director of Agriculture (PM), Department of Agriculture participated in the orientation programme on 22.8.2013. He witnessed the exhibition organized in the Centre. The infrastructure and learning facilities available in the KVK were shown during the visit. A technology presentation on Integrated Farming Systems was made in his presence which was followed by an interaction session with the trainees. The Additional Director informed the gathering that the Government of Tamil Nadu was keen to update the young officers on the latest developments in agriculture and allied enterprises. The Research and extension system of the state is vibrant and the production targets in agricultural front will be realized comfortably. The participants shared the focus technologies learnt in the training.

          Dr. M. Rajendran, I.A.S., the Director of Agriculture, Government of Tamil Nadu visited the Centre on 24.8.2013 and participated in the valedictory session. He visited the exhibition organized by the Centre and interacted with the Scientists of the Oilseeds Research Station and Krishi Vigyan Kendra. In the valedictory session, Shri. Kennedy Jebakumar, Assistant Director of Agriculture and Nodal Officer of the Orientation Training Programme welcomed the gathering. Shri. R. Chakravarthy, Joint Director of Agriculture gave special address. In the meeting, the participants provided the feedback and mentioned that the training was refreshing, purposeful and met the objectives. Dr. N. Sathiah, Professor and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Villupuram District presented the recap of the whole proceedings of the training. The Director of Agriculture released the Electronic Compendium of Technologies prepared by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Villupuram District. He congratulated the Officers for joining the service and gave away the certificates to the participants. In his address, he called upon the officers to work in unison with the mandates and strive hard to achieve the goals of the state. The young officers were urged to keep themselves updated with the latest technologies and all the avenues of information and communication have to be successfully utilized by them for successful technology uptake. The valedictory function concluded with vote of thanks to the Chief Guest, Government of Tamil Nadu, Chief Executive of the Department, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and others involved in the training, besides the participants by Dr. N. Sathiah, Professor and Head of the Kendra. The training concluded with National Anthem.
